What do you check first when revising a draft?

I’ve noticed that my drafts improve much faster when I stop correcting individual sentences and look at the argument first. Sometimes a paragraph can be perfectly written and still be in the wrong place or fail to support the main point.

My approach now is structure first, wording second, and proofreading last. It has saved me from rewriting sentences that eventually get removed anyway. Does anyone else revise in a similar order?
